95 Points - Decanter
The 2016 Château Gruaud Larose is a powerful, beautifully constructed Saint-Julien with remarkable depth and concentration. Layers of inky dark fruit and subtle anise unfold across the palate, while the appellation's signature elegance is expressed through finely tailored tannins. Though refined, the tannic structure is substantial, promising outstanding longevity. Aged in 80% new French oak.
94 Points - James Suckling
Rich aromas of sweet tobacco, currants and earthy nuances introduce a full-bodied wine with firm, chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Still youthful and tightly wound, it displays the complexity and balance expected of a classic Bordeaux. Best enjoyed after 2022.
94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Château Gruaud Larose offers expressive aromas of red and black cherries, warm plums, blackcurrants, violets, oolong tea, anise and freshly turned earth. Medium-bodied with vibrant freshness, it combines fragrant fruit, ripe grainy tannins and impressive precision, finishing long, perfumed and elegantly balanced.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Rich and juicy, this wine balances generous fruit with refined tannins derived from both the grapes and careful oak aging. Its vibrant character and solid structure suggest excellent potential for further development with additional bottle age.
93 Points - Wine Spectator
A beautifully layered Saint-Julien featuring flavors of red currant, blackberry, black cherry and açaí berry supported by a sleek thread of iron minerality.
