About the Chateau Figeac 2018
A Premier Grand Cru Classé A and one of Saint-Émilion's most iconic estates, Château Figeac reveals captivating aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, violet, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle baking spice. Powerful yet impeccably refined, it delivers silky tannins, vibrant freshness, exceptional precision, and an extraordinarily long, elegant finish with remarkable aging potential.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, mushroom risotto, black truffle dishes, aged Comté, or braised short ribs.
100 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Dominated by a rich proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Château Figeac combines immense structure with remarkable concentration and stunning black fruit. Powerful yet impeccably balanced, it is considered one of the greatest wines ever produced by the estate. Built for long-term aging, it is best enjoyed from 2027 onward.
98 Points - Decanter
Returning to its classic blend after the frost-affected 2017 vintage, the 2018 Château Figeac beautifully balances the year's richness with exceptional freshness and precision. Silky in texture with inky depth, it gradually unfolds layers of complexity while powerful tannins build seamlessly across the palate. A magnificent, age-worthy wine that stands alongside the outstanding 2016.
98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Reminiscent of the elegant 2016, the 2018 Château Figeac displays remarkable purity with aromas of crème de cassis, red currants, dried earth, tobacco, lead pencil, spring flowers and exotic spice. Medium- to full-bodied with flawless balance and silky tannins, it delivers extraordinary finesse without revealing any influence from its 100% new oak aging. Give it 4–5 years in bottle, then enjoy over the next 20–30 years.
98 Points - James Suckling
A powerful and beautifully structured Figeac, revealing layers of blackberry, blueberry, chocolate, walnut, mushroom and tobacco. Full-bodied with polished, chewy tannins, it combines impressive concentration with exceptional refinement and persistence. A profound Saint-Émilion that will reward patience. Best enjoyed after 2026.
97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Composed of 37% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Château Figeac offers vibrant aromas of crushed red and black cherries, mulberries, ripe plums, violets, damp earth, cedar, crushed stone and pencil shavings. Medium-bodied and elegantly styled, it balances bright freshness with beautifully poised tannins, finishing with lingering mineral and earthy complexity.
96 Points - Wine Spectator
Sleek, focused and exceptionally refined, this wine delivers a vibrant core of cassis and cherry purée accented by red tea, bergamot and bay leaf. Fresh and energetic throughout, it concludes with a long, chalky finish that lingers gracefully. Crafted from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2024 through 2038.
