About the Chateau Ferriere 2016
A historic Third Growth Margaux, Château Ferrière is celebrated for its elegance, purity, and biodynamic viticulture. It reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, violet, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle baking spice. Silky yet beautifully structured, it delivers refined tannins, vibrant freshness, remarkable precision, and a long, graceful finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, grilled ribeye, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, mushroom risotto, aged Comté, braised short ribs, or roasted root vegetables.
94 Points - James Suckling
The 2016 Ferrière is tangy and expressive, offering vibrant berry fruit accented by spice. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and a tightly wound finish, it possesses excellent structure and promises to develop beautifully with time. Produced from biodynamically grown grapes.
94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2016 Château Ferrière is an accomplished Margaux, displaying an elegant bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry and delicate rose petals, complemented by beautifully integrated new oak. Medium-bodied with ripe, juicy tannins, it is harmonious, refined and impressively deep, with a distinct mineral character that reflects the vintage. A significant step forward from the excellent 2015.
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Now managed biodynamically by Claire Villars-Lurton, this wine combines bright, vibrant fruit with lively acidity and a finely structured palate. The underlying framework adds depth and weight while preserving freshness. Built for aging, it is best enjoyed from 2026 onward.
91 Points - Decanter
Subtle aromas of blackberry, bilberry and hawthorn lead into a poised palate where firm tannins gradually build, providing structure and support to the fruit. Recently bottled at the time of tasting, the wine was still settling into itself. Produced during the estate's biodynamic conversion and matured in 40% new oak, it offers good balance with further potential to evolve.
