About the Chateau Cos Estournel 2008
A legendary Saint-Estèphe Second Growth with profound aromas of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, graphite, cedar, cigar box, exotic spice, and violet. Powerful yet impeccably refined, it delivers velvety tannins, exceptional complexity, remarkable freshness, and extraordinary aging potential.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, aged Comté, or wild mushroom risotto.
95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The first vintage produced in the estate's new winery, the 2008 Château Cos d'Estournel is drinking beautifully, offering impressive complexity and a silky, polished texture. Crafted from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, it displays generous aromas of crème de cassis, black cherry, toasted bread, spice and cedar. Full-bodied with sweet, refined tannins and seamless richness, it is enjoyable today yet has the structure to evolve gracefully for another 15–20 years.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2008 Château Cos d'Estournel bursts from the glass with aromas of baked cherries, preserved plums, warm cassis, fried herbs, wood smoke, tobacco leaf and savory spices. Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, it combines elegant earthiness with ripe, grainy tannins, vibrant freshness and a long, mineral-driven finish.
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Rich, smoky and deeply concentrated, this wine combines ripe black plum and red berry flavors with layers of spice and finely integrated new oak. Powerful yet refined, its solid structure and hidden tannins provide both immediate appeal and excellent aging potential.
93 Points - James Suckling
A graceful and elegant expression of Cos d'Estournel, offering aromas of blackberries, cherries and sweet spices. Full-bodied with fine tannins, the palate unfolds with flavors of chocolate, ripe berries and subtle coffee before finishing long and smooth. Best enjoyed after a few more years of bottle age.
90 Points - Wine Spectator
Juicy damson plum, mulled cherry and red currant flavors are framed by modest acidity, fine-grained tannins and notes of spice and iron. Harmonious and well-integrated for the vintage, this wine offers immediate drinking pleasure while retaining classic Saint-Estèphe character. Best enjoyed now through 2019.
