About the Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2023
Chateau Cos d'Estournel is one of Saint Estephe's most iconic estates, celebrated for its depth, precision, and remarkable longevity. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, it reveals aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, graphite, cedar, cigar box, violet, and exotic spice. The palate is powerful yet impeccably balanced, with velvety tannins, vibrant freshness, and an exceptionally long, mineral-driven finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable Left Bank Bordeaux experience.
99 Points - James Suckling
A stunning expression of Château Cos d'Estournel, combining exceptional class with remarkable length. Dense yet graceful, it delivers balanced, intense tannins that create a seamless, almost endless palate. Medium-bodied with tremendous energy and precision, it recalls the greatest historic vintages of Cos while adding greater refinement and modern polish. A true renaissance for the estate. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Best after 2029.
97 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Deep purple in color, the 2023 Château Cos d'Estournel is based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 1% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in 50% new French oak. Aromas of crème de cassis, spicy oak, graphite, lead pencil and classic Saint-Estèphe earthiness lead into a rich, concentrated palate with impressive depth, ripe tannins and beautiful fruit purity. Powerful yet balanced, it deserves 5–7 years of bottle age and will continue evolving gracefully for 40–50 years.
96+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Produced with a shorter maceration, lower fermentation temperatures and no crushing, the 2023 Château Cos d'Estournel reveals a beautifully complex bouquet of mulberries, cassis, flowers, rose petals and exotic spices seamlessly integrated with subtle oak. Full-bodied, deep and layered, it is built around a concentrated core of fruit framed by velvety tannins, finishing with elegance, fluidity and remarkable precision. Confidently expressive and impeccably balanced, it stands among the estate's finest recent vintages.
96 Points - Decanter
Dark currant fruit, herbal nuances and black chocolate dominate the expressive nose. The palate is rich, smooth and generously textured, combining fleshy ripe fruit with an underlying mineral freshness. As the fruit gradually recedes, fine powdery tannins emerge, giving the wine a serious, structured character that will benefit from further bottle age. Powerful rather than overtly fresh at this stage, it promises excellent long-term development.
96 Points - Wine Enthusiast
An impressive young wine with aromas of black chocolate and a rich, firmly structured palate. Layers of black currant and spice combine with notable intensity, creating a powerful, age-worthy expression that promises outstanding development over time.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Generous flavors of crushed loganberry, blackberry and black cherry preserves are initially expressive before being framed by notes of singed cedar, alder and incense. Sweet tobacco carries through the long, flowing finish, giving the wine both richness and polish. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
