About the Chateau Ausone 2023
Chateau Ausone is one of Bordeaux's most legendary estates, producing Saint Emilion wines of extraordinary elegance, precision, and longevity. Crafted primarily from Cabernet Franc and Merlot, it reveals aromas of black cherry, cassis, violet, graphite, cedar, and exotic spice. The palate is seamlessly balanced with refined tannins, remarkable minerality, and an exceptionally long, graceful finish.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, or aged Comte for an unforgettable Right Bank Bordeaux experience.
99 Points - James Suckling
Mesmerizing aromas of chalk, sea salt, purple fruit and black mushrooms are layered with subtle notes of pencil shavings and dust. Full-bodied and impeccably structured, the wine is framed by exceptionally fine, firm tannins that are seamlessly integrated into its elegant texture. Cool, poised and full of energy, it displays remarkable tension, precision and transparency of fruit. A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot.
96 Points - Decanter
Beautifully expressive aromas of ripe black fruit are complemented by graphite, licorice and abundant floral notes. The palate is pure, precise and juicy, supported by a clean mineral backbone that carries through to a long finish. Refined rather than powerful, it emphasizes elegance, finesse and freshness, with layers of wet stone, menthol, clove, licorice and blueberry. Although still showing youthful tension, it is already remarkably approachable. The vineyard is organically certified.
96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2023 Château Ausone, a classic blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot aged for 20 months in new oak, offers beautiful aromas of cassis, candied violets, orange blossom and striking minerality. Medium- to full-bodied, it combines concentration and layered complexity with perfectly integrated oak and a seamless texture. As it evolves in the glass, a distinctive flinty, smoky minerality emerges, giving the wine an unmistakable liquid-rock character. It will begin showing beautifully after 4–6 years in bottle, reach full maturity after about a decade and continue evolving for another 20–30 years.
96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot, the 2023 Château Ausone opens with aromas of dark berries, cherries, spices, licorice, burning embers and a subtle touch of oak. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and velvety, it is beautifully balanced around a dense core of fruit supported by fine, powdery tannins. The long, chalky, mineral-driven finish is precise and refined, making this a wine that will richly reward patient cellaring.
