About the M. Chapoutier Monier de la Sizeranne Hermitage ("200th Anniversary of Braille" Limited Edition)2022
M. Chapoutier Monier de la Sizeranne Hermitage ("200th Anniversary of Braille" Limited Edition) 2022 is a structured, elegant, and expressive organic and biodynamic red wine crafted entirely from 100% Syrah. Sourced from three distinct lieux-dits on the iconic Hermitage hill—Les Bessards, Le Méal, and Les Greffieux—it undergoes concrete vat fermentation and ages in oak barrels and small foudres. Commemorating 200 years of Braille with an embossed black label, it opens with aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant, licorice, and black pepper spice. On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied and velvety, delivering dense dark fruit flavors framed by firm tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with roasted rack of lamb, venison fillet in red wine sauce, grilled bavette steak, braised short ribs, and mature cheeses.
95 Points - James Suckling
A balanced yet intense, textural and inspired Hermitage. It showcases dark berries, dark plums, warm herbs, dried tobacco leaves and hints of peppery cured meat. Medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins. Refined texture to the dense fruit. Lots of spices and some dark chocolate appear in the long, savory finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink from 2028.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Powerful and broad, with a firming, bitter spine of iron supporting brambly berry and plum notes. Smolders with intensity, offering dark, savory undercurrents of black pepper, charred anise and mineral. Black tea tannins show real grip on the dry, gutsy finish. Give this some time to mellow out. Best from 2027 through 2040. 130 cases imported.
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Crafted from different lieux-dits in the Hermitage's hill (the lower part of Les Greffieux, Le Méal and Les Bessards), the 2022 Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne reveals aromas of lilac, iris, coniferous forest, licorice and carnal/animal-like notes mingled with inky tones. Medium to full-bodied, structured and concentrated, it's firm and dense with an abundant tannic frame that segues into a long, flinty yet carnal finish.
