About the Chateau Margaux Year Of The Rabbit Assortment Case
Chateau Margaux Year of the Rabbit Assortment Case is an exceptionally rare collector's release celebrating the Lunar New Year with three distinguished Year of the Rabbit vintages: 1987, 1999, and 2011. Carefully cellared at the estate before release, each vintage captures a unique chapter in Chateau Margaux's history, highlighting the evolution of one of Bordeaux's most iconic First Growths. Limited to just 100 individually numbered cases worldwide, this extraordinary collection is a true showcase of craftsmanship, heritage, and remarkable aging potential.
1987 Rating:
86 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
While this is undoubtedly a success for the vintage, among the first-growths I have a strong preference for Mouton-Rothschild, Lafite-Rothschild, and Haut-Brion. The 1987 Margaux exhibits a much more herbal note than one normally finds, but there is good richness, as well as a solid texture, suggesting concentration and depth. The wine is a bit narrow and compact in the finish, which leads me to believe that it will continue to evolve and open up. It should turn out to be nearly as good as the other so-called ``off'' years of Margaux during this decade, 1984 and 1980. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000. Last tasted, 1/91.
1999 Rating:
94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 1999 Château Margaux is an immensely charming wine that's drinking beautifully today from both bottle and, in this case, magnum. Bursting with aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and violets framed by subtle hints of cigar box, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and sensual, with an enveloping core of fruit, ripe and melting tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Analogies with the immensely charming 1985 vintage are very persuasive, as the 1999 is quite reminiscent of how the 1985 tasted fifteen years ago.
2011 Rating:
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
A solidly structured wine, it is both elegant and intensely powerful. It is disclosing its fruitiness slowly, at the moment dense and concentrated. A restrained edge provides complexity and balance. It will need aging, so don't drink before 2022.
