About the Chateau Carbonnieux Rouge 2019
A superb Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé with aromas of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, graphite, cedar, tobacco, and baking spice. Silky tannins, vibrant freshness, and refined structure create an elegant Bordeaux with exceptional depth and outstanding aging potential.
Food Pairing: Pair with beef Wellington, roast lamb, venison, duck breast, truffle dishes, aged Comté, or wild mushroom risotto.
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2019 Château Carbonnieux displays a deep purple-ruby hue with an elegant bouquet of red and black currants, spring flowers, spicy oak and subtle tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, it is seamless and refined, offering ripe tannins, excellent balance and a long, polished finish. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new oak, it is the finest Carbonnieux Jeb Dunnuck has tasted and will evolve beautifully for two decades.
94 Points - James Suckling
Complex aromas of black fruit, dried sage, charred bark, lavender, graphite and oyster shell lead into a full-bodied palate with firm, tightly wound tannins. Focused and beautifully framed, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot is structured for long-term aging.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a powerful and structured wine layered with oak-derived complexity and firm tannins. Developing slowly, it promises greater harmony and depth with additional bottle age.
92 Points - Decanter
Black pepper, clove, saffron and smoked cedar create a spicy aromatic profile that frames rich fruit and oak. Initially bold on the attack, it quickly settles into a balanced, characterful wine with excellent persistence. The blend is completed with 5% Cabernet Franc.
91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Carbonnieux opens with aromas of earthy black fruits, bay leaf, burning embers and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and richly textured, it features a broad, fleshy core of fruit supported by fresh acidity and fine, powdery tannins that gently frame the finish.
91 Points - Wine Spectator
A solid, classically styled wine with red currant and cherry paste flavors supported by a tarry backbone. Tobacco and iron nuances add complexity, while the focused finish carries impressive energy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
91 Points - Wilfred Wong of Wine.com
Commentary: Château Carbonnieux remains one of the benchmark estates of Pessac-Léognan, consistently producing wines of outstanding quality. The 2019 vintage is exceptionally well-crafted and beautifully balanced. Tasting Wine Aromas and flavors of black fruit and mineral lead to a tightly structured palate. Pair it with lightly seasoned lamb stew for an excellent match.
