96 Points - Vinous
The 2021 Canon-La-Gaffelière is gorgeous, though still very closed at this stage. A classic expression of the estate, it is marked by striking floral and mineral character, exceptional energy and remarkable pedigree. Bright saline notes carry through a long, persistent finish. Aged in 40% new oak, 20% tank, with the balance in used oak and 400-liter barrels. This wine pulses with energy and promises a superb future.
95 Points - Decanter
A beautifully aromatic wine with a fresh herbal-fruity nose featuring raspberry leaf. Fine-grained tannins immediately expand across the palate alongside licorice spice, dark berries and violet notes. Linear and tightly wound today, it gradually reveals strawberry fruit, Cabernet character, delicate texture and impressive complexity. Touches of sweetness, bitterness and minerality add interest from beginning to end. Drinking Window: 2025–2045.
95 Points - James Suckling
Extremely perfumed with expressive Cabernet Franc aromas of black cherries, lavender and sandalwood. Medium-bodied with polished, silky tannins, outstanding freshness and excellent length. Blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Canon La Gaffelière is a beautiful wine, bursting with aromas of rose petals, lilac, sweet berry fruit, burning embers and warm spices. Medium- to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, it features a fleshy core of fruit, lively acidity and beautifully refined tannins. Cabernet Franc once again takes the leading role, making this the standout wine in the von Neipperg portfolio.
92 Points - Wine Spectator
Gently mulled plum and blackberry flavors offer generous fruit and energy, complemented by savory woodland notes throughout. The finish remains fresh and juicy, allowing the fruit to shine. Blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2035.
91 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Based on 45% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 40% new oak, the 2021 Château Canon-La-Gaffelière displays floral Cabernet Franc character alongside red fruit, chalky minerality, leather and rose petal nuances. Medium-bodied with fine tannins, a supple, silky texture and excellent length. A charming, elegant Saint-Émilion to enjoy over the next two decades.
