Caymus-Suisun Grand Durif is an opulent, intensely dark, and luxuriously soft red wine crafted by the Wagner family. It represents a bold venture into the neighboring Suisun Valley, a region whose warm days and cool marine nights are perfectly suited for this varietal. In the glass, it displays an inky, near-opaque purple hue, opening with a powerful and expressive bouquet of baked blueberries, dark plums, and black cherry compote, intricately layered with aromatic scents of wild violet, lavender, espresso grounds, and dark chocolate shavings. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied, dense, and unapologetically rich, yet it masterfully avoids feeling heavy. The naturally potent and rustic tannins of the grape are tamed into a velvety, harmonious, and supple texture, allowing succulent layers of black fruits, fruitcake spices, and toasted herbs to glide into a long, luxurious, and warm vanilla-tinged finish.
