Castiglion del Bosco Campo del Drago Brunello di Montalcino 2018 is a powerful and meticulously crafted single-vineyard expression of 100% Sangiovese. Sourced from the highest and rockiest parcel of the estate's Capanna vineyard, located at 450 meters in elevation, this exceptional vintage benefits from classic galestro soils and cooler breezes. In the glass, it pours a brooding, deep ruby-red color. The nose is wonderfully expressive and complex, unveiling intriguing aromas of pungent mushrooms, truffles, and ripe red berries, gracefully intertwined with savory undertones of tar, graphite, and cedar. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich, and beautifully concentrated, showcasing a vibrant core of dried cherries and cranberries balanced by an energetic acidity and velvety, tightly knit tannins. The finish is remarkably long and elegant, culminating with nuanced notes of dark chocolate, forest floor, and candied orange peel.

Fascinating nose of pungent mushroom, almost truffly notes, together with ripe red berries and a twist of more exotic dates. Full-bodied with an excellent balance of ripe fruit, velvety but not chewy tannins and a long, tasty finish. You want to drink this now, but it will continue to improve with age. Best from 2024.
