Pouring a beautiful dark garnet hue with brick-red reflections, it opens with an intensely expressive bouquet of dried black cherries, cassis, and wild plum, gracefully intertwined with savory tertiary notes of worn leather, sweet pipe tobacco, damp earth, and toasted cedar from its 18 months of maturation in French oak barriques. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, firmly structured, and remarkably elegant. The 2004 Santacroce is silky, layered and impeccably balanced. Sweet red roses, red berries and spices are all woven together beautifully in this refined, expressive wine. This is a lovely showing.
