Tenuta di Capraia Chianti Classico Riserva 2017 is an incredibly expressive, complex, and beautifully chiseled Italian red wine that perfectly captures the character and intensity of this historic Tuscan estate. Crafted primarily from estate-grown Sangiovese grapes rooted in the stone-rich Alberese and clay soils of Castellina in Chianti, it undergoes careful aging for at least 15 months in traditional Chiantigiane casks and tonneaux. In the glass, it presents an intense, deep ruby-red color with bright clarity. The highly aromatic, refined nose opens with a compact core of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and red currants, gradually unfolding into complex undertones of pine needles, menthol, dried lavender, savory tobacco leaf, and sweet licorice. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, fleshy, and masterfully balanced, showing a seamless fluid coherence where its juicy dark forest fruit flavors are framed by firm, dusty tannins and a vibrant, racy spine of natural acidity, culminating in a long, persistent, and beautifully savory finish with a touch of mineral grip.

Lots of red fruit here, together with fresh flowers, black cherries and some peaches. Full-bodied with pretty depth of fruit and firm, juicy tannins. Acidity lurks behind the ripe fruit and tannins. Needs time to soften. Better after 2021.
