About the Bibi Graetz Balocchi Di Colore 2020 6 x 750ml
Bibi Graetz Balocchi Di Colore 2020 6 x 750ml is a rare, highly collectible wooden-case release by Tuscan icon Bibi Graetz that showcases the individual component grape varieties behind his flagship wine, Colore. This special 6-bottle wooden box set contains three single-varietal expressions—Balocchi di Colore N°1 Podere di Vincigliata 2020 (100% Sangiovese), Balocchi di Colore N°3 Podere di Vincigliata 2020 (100% Colorino), and Balocchi di Colore N°8 Podere dell'Olmo 2020 (100% Canaiolo)—alongside three bottles of Colore 2020. Sourced from old, high-altitude vineyards around Fiesole and Olmo, each wine is micro-vinified with native yeasts in open-top barrels and aged in old French oak. The set delivers an incredible sensory exploration ranging from vibrant wild red cherries, rose petals, and chalky minerality to deep dark fruits, floral tea, and exotic spice notes, supported by fine-grained tannins and remarkable freshness.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with bistecca alla Fiorentina, roasted rack of lamb, braised wild boar ragù, venison tenderloin, truffle-infused dishes, and aged Pecorino cheese.
Critic Ratings for Balocchi di Colore N°1 Podere di Vincigliata 2020:
96 Points - James Suckling
A structured and linear red with black cherries and blackberries with some mineral undertones. Full-bodied, very long and racy. Lovely and pure with wonderful acidity. Sangiovese plot on the hillsides above Fiesole. New wine. Needs four or five years to come around. About 2,000 bottles made. Try after 2027.
Critic Ratings for Balocchi di Colore N°3 Podere di Vincigliata 2020:
97 Points - James Suckling
This is a wonderfully structured and pure colorino with dark fruits, dark chocolate, lavender, and orange blossom. A very unique wine. So fresh and energetic. Vivid. Goes on for minutes. Elegance with structure and length. Compacted and very long. A new single plot vineyard from above the Tuscan town of Fiesole. Try after 2027.
Critic Ratings for Balocchi di Colore N°8 Podere dell'Olmo 2020
95 Points - James Suckling
This pure canaiolo shows freshness with lemon peel, stone and white pepper. Peppercorn undertones. Medium body. Tangy and spicy on the finish. Dried flowers, like rose petals. From a single vineyard plot above Fiesole. Drink or hold.
Critic Ratings for Colore 2020
98 Points - James Suckling
The subtlety and perfumed nature of this wine is enchanting, offering flowers, orange peel and cherries. Wonderful ripe strawberries, too. Full-bodied, but not over the top, with tannins that are polished and run the length of the wine. It’s tight, but gives you every indication of a terrific wine. You want to drink it now, and you probably should do, because it’s so alluring. Yet it will age beautifully as well. Drink or hold.
