About the Beaulieu Vineyard BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Beaulieu Vineyard BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is an opulent, intensely concentrated, and highly prestigious Napa Valley red wine. Born out of an unprecedented and deeply challenging growing season, this powerhouse flagship vintage opens with an expressive and highly fragrant bouquet of crème de cassis, wild blackberries, cooked black plums, and dried black cherries. These dense fruit layers are intricately intertwined with perfumed notes of wild violet, dark chocolate, fresh spearmint, tobacco leaf, and graphite, alongside sweet baking spices like vanilla, caramel, and nutmeg from extended French oak maturation. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, voluminous, and multi-layered, presenting a rich, mouth-coating density. Its defining feature is the prominent, structural framework of signature "Rutherford Dust" tannins, which provide a firm, chewy, cocoa-powder texture balanced seamlessly by a lively line of natural acidity that carries it into a legendary, velvety finish.
Food Pairing: This muscular and intensely structured Cabernet Sauvignon calls for exceptionally rich and savory dishes. It pairs magnificently with prime cuts of marbled meat, such as a dry-aged Wagyu ribeye pan-seared with black truffle butter, grilled prime rib, or a roasted rack of lamb crusted with rosemary and garlic. It is also a stunning match for a sophisticated beef tenderloin carpaccio garnished with shaved Parmesan and extra virgin olive oil, wild boar ragù, or rich, earthy mushroom risottos.
Wine Enthusiast
James Suckling
A very fine and polished BV private reserve that shows focus, tension and subtle complexity with lead pencil, fresh sage and dried herb undertones. Medium body, fine tannins and a pretty finish. Very refined. Drink or hold.
While some wineries opted to skip the 2020 vintage, BV has bottled a seemingly excellent 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour. It features black cherries, cassis and toasty oak on the nose, while its medium to full-bodied palate is a bit coarse and open-knit, but it shows no overt evidence of smoke taint to this taster, as the wine finishes long and velvety.
