The 2020 Burrowing Owl "Athene" is a powerful and harmonious Co-fermented blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, named after the scientific genus for the burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia). This vintage benefited from a long, warm autumn, resulting in an intense and structured wine with a deep ruby hue. It offers an expressive nose of black cherry, blueberry, and spicy black pepper, interwoven with sophisticated notes of tobacco, leather, and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, showcasing a rich core of dark fruit balanced by firm, ripe tannins and a vibrant acidity. Matured for 18 months in a combination of French, American, and Hungarian oak (28% new), it concludes with a long, savory finish with lingering hints of dark chocolate and forest floor.
