About the Burn Cottage Sauvage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022
Burn Cottage Sauvage Pinot Noir 2022 is an exquisite, single-vineyard red wine hailing from the biodynamically farmed 20-plus-year-old Sauvage Vineyard in Bannockburn, Central Otago. Nestled beneath hills once prized for gold and now cloaked in wild thyme and rosehip, this distinctive terroir is renowned for producing world-class Pinot Noir with minimal intervention. In the glass, it radiates a luminous ruby hue. The highly expressive aromatic bouquet offers savory notes of fine white pepper, enticing spring florals, and rich dark fruit, elegantly layered with subtle earthy undertones and graphite. On the palate, the wine is supple, elegant, and beautifully focused, delivering a generous core of juicy red and dark berries perfectly balanced by a fine, sinewy tannin framework and a bright, refreshing acidity. The finish is incredibly long, harmonious, and detailed, making it a stellar candidate for cellaring over the next decade.
Food Pairing:
Pairs beautifully with classic roasted duck, wild game birds, savory mushroom risotto, and a vibrant roasted beetroot and goat cheese tart.
95 Points -Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Sauvage Vineyard Pinot Noir is darker in the glass compared to the Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir of the same vintage. Here, the nose leads with dried herbs and cranberry, black cherry, pomegranate molasses, dark chocolate and raspberry notes. There's also nori, sweet tobacco and sage. In the mouth, the wine is ripe and plush with chewy tannins and a substantive, fulsome sort of impact. This has loads of everything, including length of flavor. This is a bigger wine than last year's offering, which will please many. I love single-vineyard wines, the lens through which we can view the year that made them and the strength of the site, above all. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Impressive for its fresh, vivid flavors of black cherry preserves and red licorice, with notes of star anise and Earl Grey, plus muscular, firming tannins. There’s plenty of harmony and length on the finish, where toasted herb accents of rosemary linger. Drink now through 2037.
