About the Fanti Brunello di Montalcino 2020

The wine shows a brilliant ruby red color with garnet nuances, an intense nose of red fruits including sour cherry, currant, and pomegranate complemented by delicate spicy and balsamic notes, and a full-bodied, warm, and mouth-filling palate where initial fruity flavors give way to lively spicy hints of cocoa, berries, and coffee powder, with young but well-integrated tannins.

Filigree complexity here with a multilayered profile, including balsamic tones, not so obvious red cherries and dried fruit, licorice, light camphor and fresh violets. Full-bodied, energetic palate with firm, velvety tannins and a chalky finish. Crisp, integrated acidity. Rich and vibrant, despite some warmth. Best after 2026.

Fanti's 2020 Brunello di Montalcino shows a dark core of black cherry and plum that is framed by lighter tones of brandied fruit and tropical rum. The heat and intensity of the vintage is played forward in terms of the bouquet and also in the glycerin-rich texture of the mouthfeel. The tannins are nearly resolved with fine texture. Hot air in the summer accumulates in the beautiful valley where this estate is located. I recommend a near or medium-term drinking window for this 40,000-bottle release.

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino opens in the glass with a burst of black cherries and raspberries complemented by hints of autumnal spices and blood orange. This displays silken textures and depths of ripe red and black fruits that take on a more crunchy sensation of tactile minerals toward the close. Long and intense yet juicy and fresh, the 2020 finishes with a coating of edgy tannins and a tart blackberry tinge that keeps the mouth watering for more.
