Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PMC:01 2013 9 Year Old is a heavily peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky that represents the sixth magnificent release in the distillery's acclaimed Cask Exploration Series. Peated to a hefty 40 PPM using 100% Scottish Concerto barley, this 2013 vintage marks the first time a Port Charlotte spirit has been matured in prized ex-Pomerol red wine casks from Bordeaux's Right Bank. The spirit initially spent four years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred into the fruit-laden Pomerol casks for an additional five years. Bottled at a robust cask strength, it offers a masterfully woven lineage of rich French oak, succulent dark fruits, and a heavy, maritime Islay smoke.

Food Pairing: Slow-smoked barbecue beef ribs, rich venison stew, strong blue cheeses like Stilton, or dark chocolate-covered cherries.

TASTING NOTES Rich hazel and deep amber in appearance, with a massive, oily, and viscous mouthfeel that entirely coats the palate.

NOSE Warm peat smoke and rich leather, opening into dark red fruits like black cherries, plums, and wild blueberries, accented by toasted oak, tobacco leaf, vanilla, and a gentle maritime sea-spray breeze.

PALATE Deep and unctuous; an immediate wave of intense peat smoke, malt sugar, and ash is balanced by a massive influence of succulent blackberries, plum jam, aged leather, warm clove, and a touch of sweet marzipan.

FINISH Long, warming, and complex, leaving a lingering trail of dry wood smoke, crushed sea shells, lemon rind, and a velvety red wine fruit dryness.

SERVE Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of room-temperature distilled water in a Glencairn glass to reveal its intricate layers of dark fruit and peat.
