About the Port Charlotte MRC:01 7 Year Old 2010
Port Charlotte MRC:01 7 Year Old 2010 is a heavily peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky produced at Bruichladdich Distillery as the first release in the Port Charlotte Cask Exploration series. Distilled in 2010, half of the whisky matured in first-fill American whiskey casks while the other half matured in second-fill French wine casks. The parcels were then combined for a final year of maturation in French oak wine casks from Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Bottled at cask strength of 59.2% ABV, MRC:01 combines powerful peat smoke with dark berries, citrus, chocolate, vanilla and rich wine-cask sweetness.
Food Pairing: Pair with smoked brisket, barbecue pork, grilled steak, dark chocolate, aged cheddar or berry-based desserts.
Tasting Notes: Powerful peat smoke balanced by dark berries, citrus, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and rich wine-cask sweetness.
Nose: Peat smoke and maritime notes with berries, honey, vanilla, almonds and dark chocolate.
Palate: Rich smoke with plum, berries, caramel, coffee, vanilla, oak and warming spice.
Finish: Long and smoky with fruit, clove, vanilla, dark chocolate, oak and lingering maritime character.
