About the Port Charlotte MC:01 9 Year Old 2009
Port Charlotte MC:01 9 Year Old 2009 is a heavily peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky produced at Bruichladdich Distillery and released as part of the Port Charlotte Cask Exploration series. Distilled in 2009, the whisky was initially matured in American whiskey and French oak casks before being brought together and finished in ex-Marsala wine casks. Bottled at cask strength of 56.3% ABV, MC:01 balances Port Charlotte's powerful peat smoke with rich dried fruit, citrus, vanilla, spice and the sweetness of Sicilian fortified wine.
Food Pairing: Pair with smoked brisket, barbecue pork, charred steak, dark chocolate, roasted nuts or aged cheddar.
Tasting Notes: Powerful peat smoke meets dried fruit, candied citrus, caramel, vanilla and warming spice with rich Marsala influence.
Nose: Peat smoke, dried fruit, candied orange peel, caramel and ginger with toasted malt and vanilla.
Palate: Oily peat and tar with cooked pear, cinnamon, clove, smoked almonds, peach and sea salt.
Finish: Long and smoky with black pepper, salted butter, warm apple, nuts and lingering wine-cask sweetness.
