Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2014 8 Year Old

A vibrant, terroir-driven single malt that showcases the distillery’s absolute commitment to ingredient provenance. Part of their Barley Exploration series, the Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2014 was distilled using 100% Concerto and Propino barley harvested from eight local farms within an 11-mile radius of the distillery. Unpeated and trickle-distilled, it was matured for eight years in a precise combination of first-fill ex-bourbon barrels (80%), second-fill ex-sherry butts (5%), and second-fill French wine casks (15%) to let the local grain shine. The nose is bright and exceptionally grain-forward, opening with freshly baked bread, malty digestive biscuits, and hay, closely followed by ripe apricot, pear drops, vanilla custard, and a hint of wet flint. On the palate, a thick, oily texture carries a wave of honeyed malt, warm porridge, and sweet citrus zest, transitioning into tropical layers of peach, banana bread, and coconut. The finish is medium-long, clean, and crisp, balancing a dry, warming nutmeg spice with a lingering trail of fruit skins and a delicate kiss of maritime sea spray.
