About the Bouchard Père & Fils Corton 'Le Corton' Domaine Grand Cru 2022
Bouchard Père & Fils Corton 'Le Corton' Domaine Grand Cru 2022 is a grand, deeply complex, and powerful red Burgundy produced from Bouchard's historic estate holdings on the famous Hill of Corton. Planted on steep, southeast-facing limestone-clay slopes, this Grand Cru cuvée undergoes careful hand-sorting, partial whole-cluster fermentation, and extended maturation in French oak barrels (a portion of which is new). In the glass, it exhibits a deep ruby color. The palate opens with intense aromatics of dark cherries, ripe red plums, cassis, and wild violet blossoms, layered over underlying nuances of damp forest floor, sweet baking spices, crushed stone minerality, and fine leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied, structured, and muscular, marrying a dense core of dark fruit with fine-grained, firm tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that ensures remarkable long-term cellaring potential.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with roasted venison loin, braised beef short ribs, prime ribeye, roasted duck breast, wild boar ragù, and mature French cheeses like Époisses or Ami du Chambertin.
96 Points - James Suckling
This has the tannic power we expect from this appellation, but in a plush and restrained form. That core is wrapped in a velvet blanket, but the dominant aromas are dark and earthy, with touches of licorice or pine bark. Very long, compact and earthy finish that promises a very long life. From a 3.55 hectare parcel on shallow red-clay soil that's almost next to the forest at the top of hill and faces east. Drink or hold.
96 Points - Wine Spectator
Plush and packed with cherry, raspberry, boysenberry, earth and spice flavors, this red is athletic and focused. Mineral and woodsy underbrush elements add complexity as this builds to the long, lingering aftertaste, which reverberates with fruit, mineral and savory notes. Best from 2029 through 2047.
