About the Tenuta di Biserno Bibbona 2020 / 2021
The Tenuta di Biserno Bibbona (widely known as Insoglio del Cinghiale) is an expressive and approachable "Super Tuscan" produced by the legendary Antinori family. While technically an IGT Toscana, the wine is deeply rooted in the Bibbona subregion of the Alta Maremma, located just north of Bolgheri. It is characterized by its vibrant ruby colour and a bouquet rich in dark berries, maraschino cherries, and subtle notes of tobacco and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied with soft, well-integrated tannins and a fresh acidity that leads to a long, spicy finish.
2020 Vintage Ratings:
98 Points - James Suckling
Very attractive nose with ripe blackcurrants, spiced chocolate, grilled thyme, hazelnuts and bacon. Notes of tobacco and cedar, too. Full-bodied, so refined and polished with layers of finely chiselled tannins spread evenly across the wine and beautifully integrated. Blooming fruit with spicy herbs, peppermint and violets. Very long and persistent with a steady, mineral sensation in the finish. Drink or hold.
93 Points - Wine Spectator
A powerful red, with a saline element underlining the black currant, blackberry, plum, leather, iron, herb and tobacco aromas and flavors. Reveals muscular tannins that shore up the finish, which has a lingering mix of fruit, herbs and spices. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2040.
2021 Vintage Ratings:
97 Points - James Suckling
The fresh herbs such as basil and thyme are attractive coupled with currants and blackberries on the nose. Full-bodied with lots of fruit and velvety tannins showing an opulence and Super Tuscan intensity. It needs three to five years to come together. Try after 2027.
93 Points - Wine Spectator
This is fresh and well-defined by its bracing acidity, driving the black currant, blackberry, herb and spice flavors. Smooth and harmonious, with a line of chalky tannins on the finish, while the herb elements persist. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2037.
