About the Benriach Batch 16 2006 Cask 1853 12 Year Old 700ml
Deep gold. This was matured in a proper Sauternes barrique rather than a seasoned hogshead and the wine pick up is fantastic. Early scents of sponge cake before pure, sustained notes of ripe apricot, manuka honey, beeswax, vanilla and whiffs of toasted barley. Good balance uncut, but slightly skewed towards the bitter, spicy side. Works better with a little water. You get sponge cake, dried apricots and a fluffy, honeyed finish. Nicely done. 55.2% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 274 bottles.
