About the Mauro Molino Conca Barolo 2020
Mauro Molino Conca Barolo 2020 is an exceptionally prestigious, elegant, and deeply expressive single-vineyard Italian red wine sourced from the historic, south-facing Conca cru in La Morra. This prized, amphitheater-shaped vineyard features unique calcareous-clay soils that yield highly concentrated Nebbiolo grapes, which are carefully aged for 18 months in French oak barriques. On the nose, it unveils a highly complex, beautifully perfumed bouquet of ripe red cherries, fresh raspberries, and dried roses, seamlessly layered with sophisticated notes of mint, licorice, sweet baking spices, and warm tobacco. On the palate, this medium-to-full-bodied red displays remarkable richness and depth, balancing its dense core of dark berry fruit with a vibrant spine of acidity and finely integrated, velvety tannins that lead to a persistent, structured, and mineral-driven finish of spectacular length.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with classic slow-braised beef short ribs, rich wild mushroom risotto, truffle-infused pasta, or aged Pecorino cheese.
94 Points - Wine Spectator
Perfumed and elegant, this red features cherry, raspberry, rose and mineral flavors that show a hint of underbrush. Balanced and open, with an accent of oak spice on the lingering aftertaste.
93 Points - James Suckling
This shows a spicy nose of ground cloves, licorice, cedar, cherries and wild strawberries with hints of dried sage and crushed stones. It’s framed with firm and lightly chewy tannins, but the mid-palate is juicy and vibrant. Medium-bodied. Textural and smooth at the end.
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Mauro Molino 2020 Barolo Conca has loads of spice and is oak-driven throughout. In terms of fruit, you get a bit of grenadine and red berry, but the mouthfeel is kicked up with spice, oak and toasted aniseed. Even the tannins are oak driven.
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Aromas of crushed cherries macerating in vanilla and clove leap from the glass of this forward Barolo. Baking spices twirl away as subtle floral and earthy aromas add contrast. Immensely pleasing with ripe currants and strawberry flavors at the core, this is juicy, lush and ready to enjoy now. Elegant and soft tannins melt on the palate, making this a Barolo that is sure to bring a smile.
