Auchentoshan Three Wood

Auchentoshan Three Wood is a rich and complex Lowland single malt that showcases the profound influence of diverse cask maturation. True to the distillery's tradition, it is triple-distilled for a smooth, delicate spirit, which is then matured in three distinct cask types: American ex-Bourbon barrels, followed by Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, and finally, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. This tripartite aging process imparts a deep bronze color and a vibrant nose of dark fruits, roasted hazelnuts, and brown sugar. The palate is thick and syrupy, offering indulgent layers of butterscotch, dark chocolate, ripe plums, and a touch of cinnamon spice. It finishes long and satisfying, balancing fresh, fruity notes with a lingering, oaky sweetness.

Food Pairing: The deep, dark fruit and syrupy richness of this whisky make it a phenomenal match for sticky toffee pudding or a dense dark chocolate fondant. On the savory side, it perfectly cuts through the richness of pan-seared duck breast with a plum reduction, or a bold blue cheese like Roquefort served with dark cherry jam.

TASTING NOTES - A deep, rich bronze-amber color. The texture is velvety, unctuous, and luxuriously mouth-coating on the palate.

NOSE - Cooked fruit, brown sugar, orange peel, and plum notes blend beautifully with rich, sweet raisins and an elegant hint of dark chocolate.

PALATE - Rich and syrupy with a distinct fruitiness. Prominent flavors of sweet hazelnut, cinnamon, and lemon zest are beautifully balanced by a deep butterscotch sweetness and complex notes of dark roasted coffee.

FINISH - Long, warm, and highly satisfying. The rich dried fruits and dark chocolate linger beautifully, leaving a sweet, oak-spiced, and velvety finish.

SERVE - Best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn tasting glass to appreciate its deep sherry complexity, or with a few drops of pure room-temperature water to open up the lighter citrus and nutty undertones.
