Ashes & Diamonds Vineyard 1 Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 750ml

The 2015 Ashes & Diamonds Vineyard 1 Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely gorgeous. This vineyard has a remarkable history, as a portion of it was planted in 1895 by Mrs. Thomas Rutherford herself, and it was later used by the iconic winemaker André Tchelistcheff, to make some of the classic wines for Beaulieu Vineyards. The Vineyard consists of Cabernet clones 6 and 4, which are planted to thin, gravelly soils. The 2015 Vineyard 1 Cabernet Sauvignon is made by talented winemaker Steve Matthiasson, and is a simply beautiful, elegant and classic expression. It begins with pretty aromas of red currants and red berries woven together with tobacco, herbs, spices, dried roses, black tea and hints of dusty minerals all taking shape. On the palate this is beautifully structured around a medium body with fine tannins and lovely acidity at its core, keeping it bight and lively through the finish. While its potential is already quite evident, this is ultimately an age-worthy wine which will thrive in the cellar.

Dark ruby garnet, violet glints, delicately paler at the rim. Ripe bouquet, delicate nuances of dried plums, candied orange zest, underlaid with dark berry jammy notes. Juicy, expressive texture, smooth, mature style, round tannins, chocolatey as well as ripe plums. Already easy to drink despite its youthfulness, fine spicy aftertaste.
