Domaine Jamet Cote-Rotie 'Cote Brune' 2014

Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie 'Côte Brune' 2014 is a rare, iconic, and deeply complex single-vineyard red wine produced by Jean-Paul and Corinne Jamet in the Northern Rhône Valley. Sourced exclusively from ancient, steep Syrah vines in the legendary Côte Brune lieu-dit, characterized by iron-rich mica-schist soils, this cuvée undergoes traditional whole-cluster fermentation with native yeasts followed by two years of aging in oak barrels (primarily neutral). In the glass, it presents a deep garnet-ruby hue with a captivating bouquet of dark raspberries, smoked meats, tapenade, crushed granite, and delicate notes of dried violets. On the palate, it is full-bodied, structured, and precise, delivering concentrated blackberry fruit, savory earthiness, and fine-grained, muscular tannins that lead to an extraordinarily long, peppery finish.

Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with roasted rack of lamb, pan-seared venison loin, wild boar ragù, duck breast with blackberry sauce, and aged wild-mushroom dishes.

Both 2014s showed well. The 2014 Côte Rôtie Côte Brune sees a touch more new oak than the classic cuvée and is aged in 20-30% new barrels. It’s always a more structured, tannic wine and requires more bottle age. Bacon fat, pepper, smoked meats and an undeniable floral character all emerge from this beautiful, concentrated and age-worthy 2014 that’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage.
